Hello Everyone, I’m Kelsey, known artistically as K.$OUL, a singer, songwriter, producer, painter, and music educator with a heart rooted in soul.

Originally from the musical city of jazz, New Orleans, Louisiana, music has always been part of my life. I grew up watching my mom sing in church, sitting in on recording sessions with her, listening to live jazz on Frenchmen Street, and singing in the car to R&B and soul legends like Anita Baker, Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, and India Arie. From an early age, I witnessed how music could shift the energy of a room. It wasn’t just sound. It was storytelling, healing, and connection. In high school, I sang in choir for three years, strengthening my foundation in vocal performance and harmony.

I studied Music Recording Technology at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, where I expanded my knowledge of sound engineering, production, songwriting, music distribution, and curating live performance spaces through open mics. As a member of the Live Wire Club, I deepened my understanding of artist development, music ownership, and live performance. Those experiences shaped me into a vocalist, producer, and songwriter who values both artistry and building creative community.

I served as an elementary music teacher in Tampa, Florida, for three years and also worked part-time with the nonprofit organization Instruments for Life, supporting music education beyond the classroom. As an educator, I focus on healthy vocal technique, songwriting, music production, live performing, music exploration, and creating a safe space where students feel confident expressing themselves.

While living in Tampa, Florida for four years, I performed at venues, festivals, and city events, growing as both an artist and community creative. My sound blends soul, R&B, jazz, alternative, neo-soul, and pop, rooted in culture, emotion, and storytelling. My influences range from Lalah Hathaway, Robert Glasper, Moonchild, and D’Angelo to Brandy, Tori Kelly, Paramore, J. Cole, and Jasmine Sullivan.

I recently moved back to Dallas, Texas, and excited to continue building my music career here, expanding my live performances, releasing new projects, and growing as both an artist and educator.

For me, music is purpose. It’s peace. It’s expression. And I’m grateful every day to share that with my students and community.

Don’t give up when it gets hard. Hard doesn’t mean stop, it means grow. Stay confident. There is no wrong idea. Some of your “mistakes” will become the very thing that makes you great. Perfection isn’t real, progress is. And progress is built through practice. Love your art. Protect your art. Cherish every moment of the journey. The world will try to shape you into trends, numbers, and algorithms. Don’t let it. Be your unique self. Stay rooted in who you are. That’s where the real magic lives.
