EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy
10 + Years in Teaching Experience
I have always had a love for music!
I started piano lessons when I was 6 years old and began singing in choirs in elementary school. By middle school, I was playing hymns and special music in church and also accompanying my school choir.

I studied piano and voice in college, earning a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Pedagogy at Southwest Baptist University, in Missouri, in 1993. I began teaching private lessons in 1991, and have taught private & group lessons and preschool music classes ever since.

I was an excellent sight reader from the beginning, so music theory was neglected in my private lessons as a child. Learning theory in college was really hard for me. But when I began to understand it, my musical experience was expanded far beyond just sight reading. And I even became an even better sight reader! As a teacher now, I aim to make sure my students learn music theory in a way that makes sense, is applicable to the music they are learning, and feels fun and easy.

I love to teach students of all ages and levels in both group and private lesson settings! But I'm really a kid at heart, so my favorite is probably the very young beginners.

Be patient with the process! Neither Beethoven or Billie Eilish became a star overnight. They put in a lot of hard work learning the basics first, just like any other student.
